The majority of our planet lies in a cold, eternal night; a practically unexplored alien world deep under the sea that lies in perpetual darkness. Of all of our vast oceans which cover most of our planet, 90 percent of these waters lie deep within the stygian chasms of perfect pitch blackness within the midnight zone. It is a cold place, perpetually blanketed with darkness and immense, crushing pressure, where nightmarish creatures skitter and flit far from the sunlit world with which we are familiar. Very little is known about this dark world. Such depths are notoriously difficult to study and we have only barely scratched the surface of what lies there.
My inspiration for this project are the amazing lifeforms and creatures that have through time developed their own source of illumination. These depths and the bizarre organisms that call them home are so alien that they are often used as a template for what we might expect to find in extreme habitats on other worlds.
With these creatures as a metamorphosis of our inner darkness and our incredible way of adapting to hostile environments as the earth will start declining and the sun will burn up! Will we still perish? Will we be like these creatures of the deep sea finding a way to light up our dark universe?
The aim of drawing with light a floating, flexible, fluid and poetic image describes the aesthetics of this artwork of light. A light source that alludes to the explosive power of a primitive life form, to its narrative power, its imaginative power, sculptures of illumination, incredible game of suggestive reflections that animate the space.
Only when we were brave enough to explore the darkness we finally discovered the infinite power of the light of our being!
